Do the lessons passed down to us by history, lessons whose origins may lie hundreds or even thousands of years in the past, have value for us today? Is Santayana's oft-repeated saying, "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it," merely a way to offer lip service from a teacher-or can we learn from it? And if we can, what is it we should be learning? This will be a two semester course based on Great Courses DVD lectures by the late noted lecturer Dr. Rufus Fears with emphasis on class discussion for follow-up and relevancy to life in modern America. The full series covers topics in both U.S. and world history.
