Woodworking: Hand Tool Fundamentals New

There is something special about using classic hand tools for woodworking. While the latest gadgets can be nice, most projects can be completed with planes, chisels, and hand saws. The first challenge is sharpening chisels and hand planes; each student will receive a honing jig to keep, and will learn to get razor sharp edges on their tools. Please bring in your own chisels and hand planes, if possible. Apply layout, sawing, planing, and joinery techniques learned in class to build simple pieces of furniture by hand. Easy-to-use finishes will make your handmade pieces look terrific. Finally, dispel any lumberyard intimidation by discussing lumber purchasing and estimating for future projects. Students will need to pay $55 for materials at the first class session.
