Winston Churchill once referred to Russia as a "riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma." Discover what the colorful history of this vast land stretching across two continents has to offer us. This course will continue the previous semester's path commencing with the October Revolution of 1917 and the evolution of Bolshevism and communism, through the eras of Stalin, Gorbachev, and the rise of Vladimir Putin. Content is based on the Great Courses lectures of professor Mark Steinberg of University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. It is not necessary to have taken the previous semester's course content to attend this semester's class.
