The Impressionists, a loose coalition of 19th century artists who rebelled against the formality of the French Academy, created the most famous artistic movement in history. This course provides an introduction to the style, subject, and function of Impressionist painting by such well-known artists as Monet, Renoir, Cezanne, and van Gogh. Presented through The Great Courses by University of Texas professor Richard Brettell, the lectures present and discuss the Impressionist revolution with a mix of history, biography, and art.
