The Silk Road and its many branches and tributaries represents the oldest inland trade routes in the world. The "Opening of the Road West" occurred in the 2nd century B.C.E. during the Han Dynasty of China. From its earliest beginnings, commerce flourished, and as a result, the cultural interaction affecting the movement of people expanded as well. New ideas, new objects, and new technologies were transmitted and adopted or adapted to an entirely new environment. Exotic foods and spices traveled both directions. No doubt, storytelling, art, and music became an integral part of this cultural exchange. Camel caravans travelled through mountains and deserts of the region carrying luxury goods to demanding customers--both east and west. The Silk Road is an incredible story. Join the adventure.
