The life of Harry S. Truman, the 33rd president of the United States, is a life filled with vivid characters-Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin, George Marshall, Joe McCarthy, Dean Acheson. Truman lived through quiet and turbulent times: World War I, the Great Depression, World War II, dropping the atomic bomb, the Korean War. Truman was a more complex, informed, and determined man that ever before imagined. He was a living link between the 19th and 20th centuries, meeting unprecedented challenges during his presidency and basing his decisions on personal core values, saying, "The Buck Stops Here." Such a common man is perhaps the most courageous president in our country's history. He understood bipartisanism and did what was best for his country. The class will be a CD/DVD presentation of Harry S. Truman with lectures and discussion of the major historical events of Truman's life and times.
