Patternmaking is an essential aspect of the complete fashion design process. Learn the techniques of patternmaking to create patterns that will then be used to cut fabric and ultimately be sewn into garments. Develop the skills necessary for drafting flat patterns/slopers through standard or individual measurements. Using graph drafting paper, you will learn to draft a bodice, sleeve, pant and skirt. You will learn the comparisons and grading information between the commercial retail pattern vs. the fitted flat pattern. Practice taking proper body measurements and applying to alterations/grading for fitted patterns. You will construct muslin fitted and sewn samples utilizing dress forms and sewing/serger machines. Projects include drafted and muslin patterns: 1. Bodice 2. Sleeve (drafted or graded commercial use) 3. Pant 4. Skirt.
