Distinguish acute trauma, chronic trauma, complex trauma, neglect, and traumatic grief in children, and consider how each type of traumatic experience can affect children’s wellbeing. Learn how similar traumas can affect children differently and discuss factors that influence severity of reactions. The immediate and long term impact of trauma on a child's brain development will be reviewed. Clinical interventions will be discussed with an emphasis on Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Suggestions for working with caregivers of traumatized children will be provided. As working with traumatized children can cause particular stress for clinicians, self-care will be addressed. Finally, you will be given resources to further continued professional competence. This course is approved for 3 CEUs by the NV Board of Examiners for Social Workers and the NV Board of Examiners for MFTs & CPCs.
