Legal Consecutive Interpreting I

Prepare to take the Certified Court Interpreter test by studying and practicing the basic strategies utilized while interpreting in the consecutive mode. In consecutive interpretation, the interpreter listens to an oral statement in a source language and then renders it in the target language. This course will focus on skills critical to consecutive interpretation, including techniques to improve memorization, note taking, and recalling lengthy segments of verbal utterances. Interpreters must be able to mentally interpret the statement, normalize the segment, and render it in the target language in its entirety while maintaining the same register and staying in compliance with the Code of Ethics for Certified Court Interpreters. This course is approved for 12 CE credits with the Supreme Court of Nevada: Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC).

Prerequisite: Introduction to Legal Interpreting or have similar working knowledge and experience. Must provide proof of proficiency in both English and Spanish at least three business days prior to starting program coursework.
