Southern Nevada offers diverse, year-round hiking experiences ranging from dramatic desert slot canyons in Red Rock Canyon to cool, high-altitude alpine trails in the Spring Mountains. However, it also requires rigorous planning to combat extreme heat, remote terrain, and sudden weather shifts. This course introduces a structured framework for leadership, communication, logistics planning, risk awareness, and preparedness through the practical application of outdoor recreation. Participants will learn how to evaluate information, develop effective plans, coordinate group activities, identify potential failure points, create contingency plans, and make informed decisions before problems arise. Using real-world outdoor scenarios, the course demonstrates how preparation, leadership, and communication influence outcomes long before execution begins.
