The UNLV Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering and the UNLV College of Education are pleased to host the UNLV STEM Summer Camp - June 2022. The goal of this STEM outreach program is to spark early student interest, ingenuity, and creativity in STEM by encouraging students to acquire knowledge, apply it, and to explore possible solutions to technical problems.
Students will have classes Monday through Friday from June 13 -July 1, 2022, 9:30 am to 3:30 pm
There will be three teaching modules. The module descriptions and schedules are as follows:
Module 1 - Drones & Robotics: This module will teach students how to assemble and test a drone and a robotic car. During the robotics section, students will be guided to assemble, test, and improve a robotic car that can avoid obstacles and make automatic turns. This robotic car comes with an in house-built kit with motors, electronics, a couple of sensors and a wood car frame. In the Drone section, students will be led to build, learn, and fly a palm size UAV in both indoor and outdoor environment.
Module 2 - Cybersecurity: Want to crack your neighbor's WiFi, with consent of course? Or how about find out why connecting to that open McDonald's WiFi might not be safe? Or maybe you want to use the same tools used in Mr. Robot? Well here in this UNLV cybersecurity program we can provide you the knowledge to become familiar with the thinking of hackers as well as teach methods to keep yourself safer from your local hackers :)
Essentially, we will cover topics like Network Essentials, Network Analysis with Wireshark, Man-In-The-Middle Attacks, Password Cracking, among a few others.
Module 3 - Start Coding in Python: Python has become the fastest-growing programming language in the world. It is an excellent language to learn to program for beginners because it has simplified syntax. Python is used in web development, data science, creating software prototypes, and so on. This Python class will guide students to learn Python one step at a time. Topics covered include Strings, Lists and Tuples; dictionaries and sets; conditional execution and loops; functions; modules, etc. No Prior programming knowledge is required.
$1000.00 includes lunches and course materials
Students who cancel their registration prior to 6/6/22 will receive a 100% refund less a $35 administrative fee. Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to firstname.lastname@example.org.
