This class will examine an important decade in world history - the 1840s. We'll learn how this early Victorian decade saw continued European imperialism and the tremendous expansion of the United States to its current borders. We'll explore how this vibrant decade was full of visionaries, revolutions, and new beginnings! From the California gold rush to the first women's suffrage conference in America; from the underground railroad to the Irish potato famine and mass migration to the U.S. People in the 1840's were striving for a better life in the form of freedom, wealth, land, power, representation and even utopian perfection. Come learn their stories!
