There is a mental health crisis in America, but not enough attention has been paid to it. The demand for mental healthcare is overwhelming our mental healthcare system. Mental healthcare professionals across the U.S. are unable to take on new patients, and hospitals are seeing a growing backlog in providing inpatient and outpatient mental health services. In this class we will cover a variety of topics that relate to the mental health crisis in the U.S. such as teenage suicide, the opioid crisis, dementia, PTSD, and the impact of COVID on mental health. We'll also have guest speakers, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers, who will add their expertise to the class.
