During the 1950s and 60s, producer-director Stanley Kramer had his creative finger on the pulse of the country. Whether dealing with subjects such as freedom of thought, racial tensions, or nuclear war, Kramer’s films often sparked national debate. In this class we will screen and discuss several of his notable films, placing them in historical context, so that we might better understand what made Kramer such a controversial figure.
