Las Vegas is known as the entertainment capital of the world, also known for its high-end fashions, theatrical costumes and uniforms. This basic introduction class will cover the design steps and construction techniques of today’s fashion designer and theatrical costumier. This four-week course provides students with a foundation in the principles, techniques, and practical skills necessary for fashion and costume design and construction. Through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on projects, participants will explore the design process, textile selection, use of sewing patterns, draping, construction techniques, and finishing details, culminating in the creation of an original garment or costume. Learn about how a design uses the texture, color, style, and other properties of clothing to express aspects of the designer. This class places an emphasis on the knowledge and use of a design board, current pattern cutting, construction, and finishing techniques. This class features an informational packet covering all aspects of garment design and creation created by Mary Ann Racheau, Las Vegas costume and fashion designer and Master Sewing Educator.
