What makes us laugh? Or guffaw? Or at least smile? This class will explore how playwrights from Ancient Greece to contemporary times have delighted audiences by tickling their funny bones. We will touch on a range of styles including romantic comedy, situation comedy, satire, and physical comedy, to name a few. You will learn the truth of the old adage, “Tragedy is easy; comedy is hard.” Class activities will include watching videos of classic stage performances, reading scenes from comedies, lecture and discussion.
