Contagious diseases are many, from the common cold to the Black Plague. Those diseases that strike many or that are significantly lethal have created terrific fear in populations throughout history. And rightly so. Indeed, they have changed history. Contagion can significantly alter various aspects of society such as social behavior, economics, inequalities, and cultural norms, and war. In this class we will discuss great contagious diseases from their mechanism of spread to their effect on history and society.
