The U.S. Constitution is a relatively short document considering its importance. At 4,543 words, the document’s body establishes a novel form of representative government while also acknowledging the many state constitutions by being purposely vague or even silent on certain issues, such as voting. Furthermore, over the last 236 years America has only adopted 27 constitutional amendments. However, these amendments enacted consequential change. This course examines the federal amendment process and reviews what the current amendments tell us about American History.
