The current Supreme Court is facing a number of unprecedented and far-reaching decisions as it has in the last few years. Just how unusual are these cases? How different is the make-up of the Court? This Great Courses DVD based class will offer perspective and insight into the current U.S. Supreme Court by delving into the Court's origins and development. The lectures presented by Peter Irons, Ph.D., J.D. will focus on the landmark cases that have reflected conflicts in American society, including federal and state power, segregation, political protest, religion and privacy issues. They will look at the parties on both sides, the justices involved and the social and political context.
