She began her career in petroleum exploration, then migrated to environmental protection, spending 30 years working, in various capacities, for the State of Florida (FDEP) and local government. Her most recent position was Executive Director of the FDEP Southwest district office. The district comprised 8 counties and was responsible for permitting, compliance, enforcement, and public outreach for air, water, waste, and wetland programs.
