Our brain, it controls every one of our actions, thoughts, memories, and emotions. It is essentially "us." But people didn’t always think of the brain in that way. For instance, the ancient Egyptians thought the brain played an insignificant role, and it was the heart that did what we now know the brain does. This class is about the brain. We'll cover the way thinking about the brain evolved. We'll examine the structure and function of the brain. We’ll cover some brain diseases and how they've been treated over time. We’ll examine how drugs impact the brain, and the effect music has on the brain. We’ll also explore the relationship of the brain to the mind. We'll even look at some whimsical and funny stories and videos about the brain. At the end of the class you may not be a “brainiac,” but you'll likely be smarter (at least about the brain) than you started.
